1st XI vs Padiham 1st X1 (h)
(T20)
Friday 20 June 2025

The hottest day of the year set the stage for a high-stakes encounter as a packed crowd at Church Meadow welcomed Padiham for the final match of the T20 league season. With both sides needing a victory to secure a place in the knockout stages, the atmosphere was electric, charged with anticipation.

Winning the toss, we elected to bat, hoping to set a competitive total. However, disaster struck early as Jordon Kelly fell with just 4 runs on the board. The situation worsened when our professional was dismissed at 12, followed immediately by Ryan Canning, out for a golden duck. At 12/3, we were in deep trouble. Waqar Raffique (14) provided brief resistance before falling at 32, leaving us reeling.

A glimmer of hope emerged as Hamid Amin (36) and Mack Spencer (31) staged a fightback, pushing the score to 88 with a gritty partnership. But once they departed, the innings crumbled, and we were bowled out for a modest 106—a total that always looked under par on a good batting track.

In response, Padiham seized the initiative with a brisk start, reaching 53 before losing their first wicket. Though we struck again quickly at 55/2, their middle order steadied the chase. At the halfway mark, Padiham were 63/3, keeping the game finely balanced. Our bowlers toiled hard, with disciplined figures across the board, but the lack of runs to defend made their task monumental.

Padiham’s number five held his nerve, steering his side home with an unbeaten 30, securing victory with just five balls to spare. While the result was disappointing, this year’s T20 competition has been a resounding success.

The Friday night fixtures have brought excitement, entertainment, and big crowds to Church Meadow, reigniting the club's spirit. More importantly, the team has grown stronger, developing a unity and belief that bodes well for the rest of the season.

Despite falling short in this must-win clash, the first team has shown they are a formidable unit, capable of challenging for the league title. The focus now shifts to the remaining fixtures, where we aim to build on the positives and push for silverware.

The T20 campaign may be over, but the fight continues—and with the team spirit stronger than ever, the best could still be yet to come.

1st XI vs. Baroldswick 1st XI (a)
Saturday 21st June 2025

The 1st XI returned to league action with high spirits, looking to build on their recent momentum and solidify their position at the top of the table. Despite another sweltering and humid day—with the ever-present threat of thunderstorms looming—a strong contingent of the loyal Ribblesdale Barmy Army turned out in force to support the team at Barnoldswick.

Barnoldswick won the toss and opted to bat, but their innings got off to a shaky start with an early run-out by Luke Spencer, setting the tone for a disciplined Ribblesdale performance. The home side suffered another crucial blow at 25/1 when their pro was clean bowled by Jordan Britcliffe, the first wicket in what would become a devastating spell.

The score progressed to 50 before Mikey Worthy produced a moment of magic in the deep, taking a spectacular catch off Britcliffe’s bowling. Worthy wasn’t done yet—moments later, he pulled off an even more breathtaking effort, diving full-stretch to pluck a one-handed stunner, again off the in-form Britcliffe. Wickets continued to tumble, and at 109/8,

Barnoldswick looked in danger of folding cheaply. However, some spirited lower-order hitting pushed their total to 167 all out, with Ribblesdale securing two additional bonus bowling points. A brief rain interruption reduced the match to 42 overs per side, and under the DLS method, Ribblesdale’s target was adjusted to 163.

Jordan Britcliffe was the undoubted star with the ball, delivering a match-winning spell of 15 overs, 3 maidens, 6 wickets for just 59 runs - a performance that dismantled Barnoldswick’s batting lineup.

In reply, Ribblesdale’s established opening pair of Jordan Kelly (26) and Hammid Amin (28) laid a solid foundation with a 61-run partnership. Though both fell in quick succession, the stage was set for the ever-reliable Pro and Ryan Canning to continue their rich vein of form. The duo put on a dominant 96-run stand, with the Pro racing to a fluent 57 (6x4, 3x6) before being caught behind in pursuit of a quick finish. Canning (39* off 7x4) held firm, guiding Ribblesdale to a comfortable victory with his composed and unbeaten knock.

Another 12-point haul keeps Ribblesdale firmly at the summit of the league, reinforcing their promotion credentials. With a string of away fixtures on the horizon, the team’s current form and collective confidence suggest they are more than capable of maintaining their charge.

The Barmy Army will be crucial in the coming weeks as the team hits the road, but if this performance is anything to go by, Ribblesdale’s title push is very much alive and well.

2nd XI vs. Barnoldswick 2nd XI (h)
Saturday 21st June 2025

On a warm and humid afternoon at Church Meadow, Ribblesdale 2nd XI welcomed Barnoldswick in a highly anticipated league clash. After weeks of losing the toss, Ribblesdale finally had luck on their side, with captain Travis Blezard calling correctly and electing to bat first on a good-looking pitch.

A new opening partnership of Mack Burgess and Stephen Tandy got Ribblesdale off to a flying start. The pair looked comfortable from the outset, punishing loose deliveries and rotating the strike well. Their brilliant 83-run stand set the foundation before Burgess (47) fell to a loose shot, just three runs short of a well-deserved fifty. The innings then saw a brief wobble as Collinge departed shortly after, leaving Ribblesdale at 89/2. However, Scott Fielding injected momentum with a quickfire 28 before being caught behind. Tandy, who had anchored the innings, followed soon after for a solid 40, and disaster struck next ball as Alistair March was dismissed for a golden duck—leaving Ribblesdale at 144/5.

Travis Blezard (6) and Matt Brett steadied the ship with a 30-run partnership before Blezard fell, bringing Charlie Windsor to the crease. Windsor and Brett then took control, combining sharp running with aggressive strokeplay in a crucial 46-run stand. Brett’s excellent knock of 40 came to an end late in the innings, but Windsor remained unbeaten on a lively 30*, guiding Ribblesdale to a strong total of 233/7 from their reduced 44 overs (one over lost due to rain).

Facing a steep required rate, Barnoldswick needed a strong start, but Charlie Windsor had other ideas. Opening the bowling alongside Billy Worthy, Windsor struck early with an LBW, leaving the visitors at 10/1. What followed was a masterclass in seam bowling—Winston ripped through the top order, claiming three more wickets, including two clean bowled, to reduce Barnoldswick to 44/4. In the final over of his spell, Windsor sealed his first senior five-wicket haul for the club - a phenomenal achievement - leaving Barnoldswick reeling at 58/5.

The introduction of spin duo George Ker and Travis Blezard only tightened the screws. Kerr picked up two wickets, while Blezard cleaned up the tail with three of his own, wrapping up Barnoldswick’s innings for a meagre 90 in just 20.5 overs.

Ribblesdale’s 143-run win was a complete team performance, earning them 12 crucial points and extending their unbeaten run to nine games. The victory also cements their position at the **top of the league table, with momentum firmly in their favour as they look to strengthen their lead in the coming weeks. A brilliant all-round display from Ribblesdale, who continue to prove they are the team to beat this season!

Next up: Can they make it 10 unbeaten? #UpTheRib

Hamer Cup
Sunday 22nd June 2025

Abandoned due to rain

The match to be continued on the 6th July 2025 to a conclusion

3rd XI vs. Read 3rd XI (a)
Sunday 22nd June 2025

With ominous clouds gathering overhead, the Ribblesdale Wanderers 3rds traveled to Read’s ground for what promised to be a competitive fixture. After winning the toss, skipper Luke Spencer elected to bowl, judging the pitch to be a fair cricketing surface despite the looming threat of rain.

Read’s openers started confidently, racing to 38 without loss after just six overs. The breakthrough came when Thomas Allen entered the attack, striking with his second delivery and finishing with an excellent spell of 1-18 off 4 overs, applying much-needed control. However, Read’s second-wicket partnership proved stubborn, taking the score to 134-1 before Spencer broke the stand with a crucial wicket. Despite tight bowling from Ribb’s young attack,

Read’s opener anchored the innings superbly, finishing unbeaten on 120 off 111 balls - a classy century that guided his side to 210-5 from their rain-reduced 35 overs. A special mention must go to Noah Hamilton, who stepped in at the last minute for his first senior appearance for the club. Thrown into the deep end against a strong batting lineup, the youngster delivered a composed spell, showing great promise for the future.

The reply got off to a disastrous start, with a comical run-out in the very first over setting the tone. Both openers fell cheaply, leaving Ribb in trouble at 27-2. However, the next duo of Ewan Barker and Alistair Marsh stepped up brilliantly, launching a counterattack with an 86-run partnership that injected life into the chase. Barker, in particular, was outstanding, crafting a classy 67 off 76 balls his maiden senior fifty for the club- before being dismissed. Marsh followed soon after, agonizingly falling one run short of his own half-century. Just as Ribb looked to accelerate, the heavens opened in dramatic fashion, halting play within minutes. The match was abandoned with Ribb 136-5 off 28 overs, well short of the adjusted target.

Though the 3rds took no points from the game, there were plenty of encouraging signs: Three U13 players featured, highlighting the club’s commitment to youth development.

⏺ Thomas Allen continued his fine form with another disciplined bowling spell.

⏺ Noah Hamilton impressed on his senior debut.

⏺ Ewan Barker’s maiden fifty showcased his growing maturity as a batsman.

The result may not have gone Ribb’s way, but with young talent stepping up and performances like these, the future of the club remains bright.
