Ribblesdale Classic 2025

Seniors Classic Final
Juniors Classic Final
Seniors Classic Last 16

Finals Day - Sunday 25th May 2025

The event was being played in Memory of Mel Edmondson, Sarah’s dad. I never got to meet Mel, but he did lots of things for the club at Ribblesdale and was a big character and did lots for the club. He ran the Bar-Be-Quick pairs and many other things at Ribblesdale for many years. Known by many who came to the pairs, they have remembered him when they visited Ribblesdale when he ran it. A well respected man who the competition, and event is played in memory of and it’s a fitting way to remember him.

Congratulations to Callum WRAIGHT (Shrewsbury) who was crowned The Ribblesdale Classic Champion 2025 and took home the magnificent trophy and £1600! Callum defeated Ryan CLARK (Sheffield) in a thrilling final that kept everyone entertained and engaged 21-18. The hundreds in attendance and thousands online enjoyed a high quality match fitting for the final! Callum also qualifies for the BCGBA Champion of Champions in September.

Congratulations also to Harley TATTERSLEY (Dewsbury) who defeated Ryan HOCKNULL (West Bromwich) 21-16 in a great junior final. Harley won the trophy and £400 as The Junior Ribblesdale Classic champion.

What a day we had yesterday, the weather held up pretty well despite a poor forecast and hundreds of people arrived from around the country to watch the Grand Final! The buzz around the place made everyone enjoy it and to see peoples reactions when they walked around to see a green surrounded fully by people makes it worthwhile.

The atmosphere built throughout the day and I am sure people were enjoying the top quality matches. It makes this event worthwhile when you see the support we got yesterday and we’d like to thank each and every one of you that came to watch! Over the last month and a half we’ve had players and spectators from all over visit our event and it is hugely appreciated.

Volunteers and Helpers

A big thank you to all the helpers we’ve had over the 8 qualifying sessions, 2 junior qualifying sessions and finals day! It’s a huge effort and I would like to thank all of you who have, marked, measured, sold raffle tickets, programmes, been in the kitchen, BBQ and all the other tasks required. Some members and some non members but all helped to make the event a success and without your help we couldn’t do it.

It was fantastic to have former World Snooker Champion John Parrott MBE joining us as well as the Mayor of Clitheroe Cllr Mike Graveston, they joined us for the later stages of the day and I hope they both thoroughly enjoyed it! John also signed a cue which we donated all money raised when auctioned off to The Mel Evans MBE Foundation, raising £170!

Thanks to Peradon Cues for donating the cue that we auctioned off and to John for signing it! Thanks go to Blue Border Sports for their excellent coverage, we obviously want as many of you to join us at the venue but their wonderful coverage has allowed so many more to enjoy the event! This alongside our live streams of the qualifying sessions on Facebook has given the competitions a huge audience.

To Christopher Snape and The Grass Doctor for producing an excellent surface and getting the green in good condition throughout the event! To all the businesses and sponsors who kindly donated raffle prizes worth hundreds of pounds thank you and to everyone who bought raffle tickets throughout the event it’s greatly appreciated!

Big thank you to Aaron Harrison who has helped me with this massively looking after the leaderboard and keeping it updated! Really couldn’t have done it without him.

Thanks to Steve Proctor for taking some fantastic photos which will all be shared soon! Some of the attached are from Steve!

Jon Edmondson did a fantastic job as always as referee, thanks for keeping everything in check Pinky.

Thanks to the DJ Stuart Gower for doing a great job playing the tunes throughout the day!

Thanks go to Duncan Reeves for coming and doing the book all day, their presence at the finals day adds an extra something and I’m sure they had a lot of interest.

Also to Well Bowled for coming and bringing their ‘pop up’ shop, giving people a chance to get some bowls, bags and merchandise!

Predictor League

The predictor league was introduced this year and what a success it was with 104 entries and £550 in prize money! For just £5 everyone has enjoyed it and it all came down to the final to decide who was going to take home the £275 first prize. The finals day saw a huge change in the standings as the league leader heading into the final and also for the majority of the competition, Terry Brook scored 0 points alongside second place as they selected Wilcox & Coates, this opened the door for many of the chasing pack. A Wraight win saw Jonathan Sykes take the title with 66 points and gets £275. It would have been a different result is Ryan had won, but overall I think this concept has worked a huge thanks to all 104 who took part in this years predictor league. See the top 7 below, full results will be posted soon!

1st Jonathan Sykes 66 PTS £275

2nd Oliver Mordue 63 PTS £137.50

Joint 3rd Bob Horrocks & Karen Kenworthy 62 PTS £68.75 Each

5th Terry Brook 61 PTS

Joint 6th Joe Cranston & Jake Reilly 58 PTS

And finally.....

To the 128 bowlers and 32 juniors that entered our event a huge thank you to you for entering and entertaining everyone over the competitions. Also to the huge list of players on the reserve list, I know so many want to be involved with this competition and we feel bad that we can’t have you all in but your support is always appreciated.

We would like to thank everyone for the support and for following our posts online throughout the event and in the build up to it. We had over a million views in a month on Facebook which is incredible. The good news is now the event is over and your feeds won’t be filled with Ribblesdale Classic posts! But I’m sure you’ll all miss it too!

Thanks for your support!
